OnePlus is launching a budget smartphone. Here's everything we know so far.

OnePlus launched the $700 OnePlus 8 and $900 OnePlus 8 Pro earlier this year, but the company is already planning its next major smartphone launch: The OnePlus Nord. The OnePlus Nord is the newest smartphone from OnePlus, marking the company's return to its roots as a maker of low-cost handsets that still sport the kind of features you'd find in a flagship.

But OnePlus Nord is more than just a phone —Nord is actually a product line of affordable devices that pack in premium capabilities. Though, OnePlus is yet to reveal the Nord phone or other devices that will make up the Nord family.

Here's everything we know about the OnePlus Nord.
  • Unlike other OnePlus phones which are focused on speed and performance, the OnePlus Nord is focused on price. The OnePlus Nord is expected to be priced under $500 which means that it will be in direct competition with the iPhone SE and Samsung Galaxy A71.

  • The OnePlus Nord will support 5G connectivity, making it one of the cheapest devices to boast 5G. This will allow the OnePlus Nord to join the ranks of 5G phones that cost less than $600. We think this is a trend we will be seeing in other devices this year.

  • It will be boosting a SnapDragon 765G under the hood which is a mid-range chip sitting below the Snapdragon 865, but it still promises solid performance for most smartphone tasks. The entry level model will likely have 6GB of RAM with the expensive variant boasting 12GB of RAM.

  • The OnePlus Nord will have a simple design sporting a 6.4-inch display with a hole-punch cutout. The display is rumored to have a fresh rate of 90 Hz.

  • Its also suggested that the device will have a 4,300 mah battery with 30-watt warp charging which is inline with the OnePlus 8. Though, there is no wireless charging.

  • The OnePlus Nord will have triple cameras (as seen in OnePlus' recent video titled "Dear Past") at the back and dual front cameras (as reported by Android Central).

    Update:
OnePlus Nord is going to be launched on July 21st with the world's first ever AR smartphone launch event. Basically, how it works is that anyone can download the app to view the launch event in Augmented Reality on July 21st at 3PM BST / 10AM ET / 7AM PT. The app is available for both iOS and Android.

OnePlus is also producing physical invitations to the event, which it says will give people a “unique hands-on experience” of the device in AR. Physical invitations will contain a QR code that you can scan to access the AR experience. This isn’t the first time OnePlus has experimented with new formats for its product launches; it used a virtual reality event to announce the OnePlus 2 in 2015. OnePlus Nord is coming!

    Update 2.0:
OnePlus Nord will have an AMOLED display as confirmed by OnePlus' official Instagram account. Moreover, leaked renders confirm quad camera setup at the back, dual cameras at the front along with a capsule punch notch.

    Update 3.0:
OnePlus Nord will come with Google's Messages and Phone apps instead of their own apps. This decision is apparently taken to ensure the smoothest experience possible
